As the summer months are coming quickly upon us – we all tend to add more fruits and vegetables into our diets. One of my personal favorites has always been fruit salad. It’s so versatile, easy, and tasty! For the most part, if you don’t have one ingredient –
you can just substitute it for another. However, the thing that makes a fruit salad, a salad, is all the MANY fruits coming together to make one delicious treat.
If I only put apples and oranges in my fruit salad, would it still fill me up? Sure, it would. It’d still be healthy too, yet – it won’t be as tasty compared to the scrumptious dish of multiple fruit that keeps me wanting to come back for more.
You need all the fruits working TOGETHER for a fruit salad to be all that it’s meant to be.
It is the same with my walk with the Lord – I need to be cultivating and growing ALL the fruits of the Spirit in my life to become WHO the Lord has called me to be.
It says in Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV) –
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”
There are some situations in my life that are going to need more KINDNESS than other times.
There are moments that are really going to stretch my LONG SUFFERING (patience) fruit to the outer limits of its capacity.
I may not feel like it every day – but, I can always CHOOSE to live in the PEACE that the Jesus Christ gives me in knowing that HE has EVERYTHING under control.
It may not always be easy, and I will not always get it right, but it is my prayer to keep striving with the Lord’s help to continue to nurture and grow the Fruit of the Spirit in my life. Sometimes – we have to take a step back and ask the Lord to show us what fruits need work in our lives and have the courage to follow through in growing them.
May it be our prayer that we all continue to grow in our walks with the Lord and become, with His help, the servants of the cross that we are called to be.

SIMPLE SUMMER FRUIT SALAD
(Makes 12 Servings)
FOR THE DRESSING
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
FOR THE SALAD
3 cups strawberries, hulled and sliced
2 cups blueberries
3 kiwis, peeled and sliced
2 oranges, peeled and wedges cut in half
2 apples, peeled and chopped
2 cups grapes
In a small bowl, mix together honey, orange juice, and lemon juice.
Add fruit to a large bowl and pour over dressing, stirring gently to combine.
Chill until ready to serve.
