I like to go thrifting – there is something exciting about finding unexpected treasures and being able to add to the fashion choices in your closet without spending a ton of money.
One of my favorite finds that I have ever come across was an old black and white, fluffy, 1980’s long sweater with pockets for only $2.
There was some yellowing around the neck and cuffs due to age –
but I could see it was a nice, quality piece and with a little work,
it would be an awesome addition to my closet.
I bought it, took it home, carefully pre-treated the places that needed attention, put it in my washer on the gentle cycle, then waited to see if my work would pay off. After letting it hang dry – it was finally time to check out what had become of the sweater.
You couldn’t tell that it had ever been stained and, much to my delight, it looked brand new! I still wear that sweater all the time and have gotten lots of compliments on it over the years.
I am so thankful I took a chance on that sweater, willing to see past what it was, choosing to see what it could become with work and care. It made me think about how God is with us. He sees us in the messes we make for ourselves and He doesn’t just turn a blind eye or say to us,
“You got yourself into this, now you get yourself out of it!”
No! when we cry out to Him he hears us and answers- He meets us right where we are and helps us. When we confess our sins and repent – He forgives us, washing us clean of all unrighteousness.
It says in 1 John 1:9 (KJV) –
“If we confess our sins, He is FAITHFUL and JUST to FORGIVE us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
God sent His one and only Son to earth not to condemn us for not being good enough, but to make a way for us to become right with Him.
Jesus came to sacrifice Himself for us, to die a brutal death on a cross that He didn’t deserve – to be put in a grave for three days, rise again,
and make a way for us to come to know Him and have eternal life.
It says in John 3:16 (NKJV) –
“For God so loved the world that He GAVE His only begotten Son,that whoever BELIEVES in Him should NOT PERISH but have EVERLASTING LIFE.”
I encourage you today, if you’ve never decided to follow Jesus as your Savior or even if you’ve slipped in your Christian journey, if you think it’s too late for the Lord to save you and to help you –
IT IS NOT TOO LATE.
It says in Revelation 21:5 (NKJV) –
“Behold, I make all things new…”
Today – choose to turn from your mess and lift your eyes to the Savior.
Confess your sins and walk away from them – and run to Jesus Christ, the ONE who can make you whole, who can make you NEW again.
