As the winter months come to an end, wedding season is on its way! There are various events that take place prior to the big day – one of them is the bridal shower. According to the wedding experts at The Knot, a wedding planning website, the bridal shower typically takes place anywhere from 5 months to 2 weeks prior to the wedding date.
As my wedding date quickly approaches, my mom and my best friend have planned the dreamiest bridal shower. I was only told the venue and the date for it, so of course I struggled with determining what to wear for such a special event. I searched Pinterest for various outfit inspirations until I finally found “the” dress for me! However, with the stress of wedding planning, the task of finding the “perfect” outfit became a lot more overwhelming than it should have been.
I just wanted it to be everything I had always imagined, and during this search I realized that I was forgetting to enjoy the moment. I had dreamt of this special season for so long and my mind had developed an idealized version of how it should all be from the engagement to all of the celebrations leading up to the big day. This idealized version was starting to steal my joy and was preventing me from enjoying the moment that I had prayed for and believed in for so long.
Wedding planning can be a complex task, but I decided from that moment on I would remember the reason for this season – I get to spend forever with the one that God prepared for me! No matter what I wear to my bridal shower or what my wedding décor looks like, I still get to marry the love of my life, the one I prayed for many many years, and that is truly all that matters.
So, for those who are also planning their big day, remember why you are doing this. While we do want to ensure our weddings are everything we dreamt of, remember that spending the rest of your life with your one and only is what matters. Remember that this season is the start of the purpose that God has for you both. And for those of you who are still waiting for the love of your life to come into your life, keep dreaming and keep believing, because God will exceed your expectations, it is what He does. He gives us more than what we ever imagined.
“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
Ephesians 3:20 NLT
