Two Questions and an Adventure // Holly Starr Jackson

By May 3, 2018All Posts

As we begin our study of Hebrews for this month’s blog theme, I would like to ask you two questions and lead you on a little adventure of discovery!

First, I would ask, do you see Him? Jesus—the Light of all Creation shining all around you reflecting the glory of the Father for all to see! And second, do you hear Him? Jesus, the manifested Word of God—THE VOICE—is speaking TO YOU! I know it is easy to think that He only speaks to the Pastors and leaders, but He is speaking to you and me as well!

Hebrews chapter 1 tells us (in The Passion Translation) that:

Throughout our history God has spoken to our ancestors by his prophets in many ways […] only a fragment at a time […] But to us living in these last days, God now speaks to us openly in the language of a Son [Jesus] […] He is the one through whom God created the universe […] He reflects the brightness of God’s glory and is the exact likeness of God’s own being, sustaining the universe with his powerful word. (Heb. 1:2-3 GNT)

In John 1, Jesus is introduced to us as “The Word” and John tells us that:

In the beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. From the very beginning the Word was with God. Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out. (John 1:1-5 GNT)

I love the way The Voice Translation puts verse 1:

“Before time itself was measured, the Voice was speaking. The Voice was and is God.”

And Hebrews tells us that “The Voice” is still speaking today!

Meditating on these verses, I can easily envision a beautiful daughter of God. She’s standing, face basking in the pure and warm light of heaven. Content in its safety and unconcerned with the darkness beyond. I can see her listening intently to the heart of her Father, as Jesus—the Voice—wraps Himself around her: inspiring, calling, directing, instilling confidence, and settling every fear and doubt with His love.

Imagine her with me, will you? Only don’t just see “a daughter”, see YOURSELF in this vision. Go ahead…imagine His light warming your face like the perfect rays of the summer sun, the refreshing winds of the Holy Spirit blowing all around you—feel the joy and the excitement of all you were created to be coming forth in this moment—hear His voice, the voice of your Shepherd and closest friend telling you exactly who you are and why you are here. (Go ahead, I’ll wait while you take all the time you need! Don’t be surprised if you find your heart overflowing in worship as you begin to sense His presence and hear His voice!)

Did you see yourself through His eyes and love? I believe if you took the time to go on this adventure with me, that He met you right where you are and strengthened your heart with His promises for your life. If so, take a minute to write down what you heard and experienced. Reflect back on it until it grows so big on the inside of you that you know without a doubt these verses in Hebrews are true—that the Creator of the Universe is speaking openly to His people today, not just through the prophets as in days of old, but through the Holy Spirit directly to His sons and daughters—to you and I!

He is always speaking to us, we need only to stop and listen! Oh, what joy there is when we take the time to wait in His presence and let the sound of His voice fall on our hearts like much needed rain! I encourage you to make this a part of your daily routine. Get still in His presence, take time to engage your imagination (that’s the creative part of you that is so much like the Creator, Who created you to be like Him!), listen and record what He is speaking to you! You’ll find He is always ready to give you the words you need, for yourself or those around you!
