Song of Songs 4:1 TPT

Has anyone ever called you Darling? What about Dear? What mighty terms of affection!!

Can you imagine GOD whispering those words to you, calling you intimate names of endearment? Our God is a romantic to His core, desperate to show us how much He loves us and delights in us.

I am also a hopeless romantic and shamelessly admit to loving “The Notebook”, “Love Actually”, and pretty much any Nicholas Spark novel. I love Valentine’s Day, I love weddings, I love love-songs, and slow dancing. I love elaborate expressions of love, grand gestures, and chivalry. Simply put, I love LOVE. Maybe you can relate, and you’re right there with me. Maybe you’re the opposite, maybe this whole “love” thing makes you nauseous.

Regardless of your current relationship with love, I would like to introduce you to a different love. A love not made cheap by Hallmark Holidays, a love not made worthless by lies and hurt, a love not tainted by movies or culture. Rather a love that withstands anything and a love that penetrates the hardest of hearts, a love unexplainable, indescribable, unimaginable this side of Heaven. A love that I honestly struggle to receive sometimes, that I battle to encounter, but that gives me a life better than I could have ever dreamed of.

This love that I’m speaking of is called Agape. A greek word that helps to describe and encapture the love that God has for you, and for me; for His children, for His church, for His Bride. Our minds cannot even comprehend how unconditional, uncircumstantial and relentless this love is. God, from the beginning has directed a story of His love for us and written it out in the Word.

I want to ask you to do something with me. Will you please read the following scripture out loud? And while you read it, imagine God, the creator of the universe, the Sovereign Lord, Abba Father, Yahweh, speaking this to you. Imagine Him looking you deep in the eye, holding you firm in His arms and saying,

“Listen, my dearest darling, you are so beautiful – you are beauty itself to me! Your eyes glisten with love, like gentle doves behind your veil. What devotion I see each time I gaze upon you.  When I look at you, I see how you have taken my fruit and tasted my word. Your life has become clean and pure, like a lamb washed and newly shorn. You now show grace and balance with truth on display.

Your lips are as lovely as Rahab’s scarlet ribbon, speaking mercy, speaking grace. The words of your mouth are as refreshing as an oasis. What pleasure you bring to me!

When I look at you, I see your inner strength, so stately and strong. You are as secure as David’s fortress. Your virtues and grace cause a thousand famous soldiers to surrender to your beauty. Your pure faith and love rest over your heart as you nurture those who are yet infants.

Every part of you is so beautiful, my darling. Perfect is your beauty, without flaw within.

For you reach into my heart. With one flash of your eyes I am undone by your love, my beloved, my equal, my bride. You leave me breathless – I am overcome by merely a glance from your worshiping eyes, for you have stolen my heart. I am held hostage by your love and by the graces of righteousness shining upon you.

Song of Songs 4:1-5, 7, 9 The Passion Translation

I believe that when we encounter His love, we are set free, we are changed, we are released, equipped, and confident. I pray right now that hearing these words from Heaven will change you. That the knowledge of how God feels about you will break chains off your heart, will heal any wounds, will shatter any doubt, will cast out all fear. I pray that you will know in the depths of your being that you are LOVED and known and cherished by your Heavenly Father. I pray that you will experience the freedom, the favor, and the joy that comes from walking through life loved.
