What kind of woman are you created to be? It’s a simple question with so many potential answers.
As I studied the passages of Deborah, I was astonished by what I read. I couldn’t believe I had never known of this mighty woman of God. Deborah was a leader of wisdom. It says in Judges 4:4-5, “Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lapidoth, was LEADING Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the israelites went up to her to have their disputes DECIDED.”
Isn’t that astounding? A woman in this time, settling the decisions of men? God trusted her and even more, the men trusted her. Deborah sent for Barak, the son of Abinoam to give him direction. She told him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor.” (Judges 4:6).
Barak responds saying, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” (Judges 4:8).
Here we have a mighty example of what womanhood is about. Deborah shows us that a woman can be a respected leader, a prophet, a ruler, a mighty warrior, a wife and mother. Her rule over Israel brought 40 years of peace and she ruled with mercy and righteousness, settling disputes, assisting her people with the wisdom and visions of God who empowered her, and doing a mighty fine job. Deborah knew full well who she was created to be, now it’s time for us daughters to know full well who we are. Her confidence came from the Lord, she knew He was for er and she trusted His design. We need to follow the same mentality- let’s pray that God uses us as warriors of the modern day. Let us lead our communities, let us prophecy over our brothers and sisters, let us become wives and mothers. There’s no reason we can’t be just as effective as Deborah. However, we need to protect our hearts from jealousy and comparison.
Below is a word God gave me on this point:
I didn’t give you examples of these faithful women just so that you could read with envy or complacency. I give you the story of these women so that you may learn from their boldness, their leadership and faith. I created you daughter to have an impact on life. Not just your own life, but everyone who comes in contact with the love that emanates from your spirit. I created you with purposeful thought to cause change. I created you to shift perspectives and align the people of this world. You, Daughter, are partaking in a battle that cannot be overcome through sheer desire to do good, but through the deliberate action of stepping out in boldness to pursue your unique purpose.
Deborah is my daughter, and look what she accomplished by allowing herself to be led by my spirit. She is a prophet, a leader of Israel, a wife- a WOMAN. You daughters are not weak because you are female. You are imminently strong. I gave you a strength to overcome yourself. Arise sister’s of Deborah, Daughters of my heart. Claim what I’ve set before your feet. Pick up your confidence, I trust you-now it’s time to trust yourself. Let me equip you with the knowledge and confidence to be a leader of this day.
So ladies, I dare you-ask God to equip you with a spirit of leadership like Deborah’s. A spirit of burning passion for justice, a spirit of discernment and wisdom, a spirit of motherhood. I dare you to be the woman God created you to be.
