“…Suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” …the woman was made well from that hour.” Matthew 9:20-22 NKJV
You’re probably wondering what getting beautiful feet has to do with the story of the woman with the issue of blood. Well, I would love to explain! First though, I’m not actually daring you to go get a pedicure! More on that in just a minute. As I thought about the above passage and what I could take away from this story, the Holy Spirit impressed upon me the importance of sharing Jesus with others. I realize that is not what you might expect to hear on this woman’s story, yet it is a key part. The Scripture says, “she “said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well,” but for her to even think of that and have such bold faith for her healing, she had to have first HEARD about Jesus and His healing power from someone.
Think about it, someone had to tell her about this man called Jesus who was going around doing amazing, wonderful things for people—even healing the sick and raising dead people back to life. That someone told her that they had found a man who could give her hope of really living again. Because of that, she went on to touch Jesus and was made whole! That thought really challenged me to start telling others about Jesus more and I was reminded of the Apostle Paul’s words:
“…how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? … That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” … so, faith comes from hearing … the Good News about Christ.” Romans 10:14,15 & 17 NLT
So, you see, I’m not talking about getting a pedicure to get beautiful feet! (Although that does sound like a really good idea now!) Paul says the feet of those who bring good news are so beautiful! As women, I think it is safe to say we will take all the beauty we can get, right? Well, this beauty is much greater than a fancy paint job on our toenails. It is a beauty that will last forever and comes with a power behind it to change lives! That is the kind of “beautiful” that Paul is talking about in this verse—it is the beauty of loving others enough to tell them about Jesus. It is the best kind of beauty we can hope to attain.
Just think of how beautiful it must have been for the woman when that someone told her about Jesus and sparked hope in her that she could be free of her constant pain and weakness. That person might have thought, “I don’t want to get her hopes up; she might be disappointed,” but they didn’t let that stop them from telling her. No, they dared to take that risk so that she could dare to believe!
Now think of how beautiful Jesus’ words “Your faith has made you well” must have sounded to the woman that day. So much beauty was set in motion for eternity by someone’s boldness to share about Jesus.
I wonder who is in our lives that needs the lifeline of hope hearing about Jesus would bring them. Who will I encounter today that needs to hear that He can heal them? Who do you work with that needs the salvation and freedom only He can give? Will I dare to speak up when I go to check out and I see the sadness in the eyes of the lady behind the counter? What about that girl in the apartment next to yours who brings home one guy after another desperate for love? Will you dare to share the love of God with her? It is my prayer that the Father will open our eyes to those who need to hear and give us the boldness to DARE to tell them about the One who is all they will ever need.
Are you ready to go get your beautiful feet? I am!
