As I kneel down to clean up the juice I just made off of my kitchen floor my symptoms scream so loudly I cant’ remember what I am doing. At this moment I understand that I have a choice. I can either bow down to this disease or in spite of what feel, speak God’s Word to it.
Have you ever experienced something like this? Maybe your situation was financial, emotional, with a relationship, or physically like me. You felt like that ‘thing’ was pushing so hard against you that you just couldn’t catch a breath. It was unrelenting. This story in Daniel has brought such hope to me and I pray that it does the same for you.
In Daniel 3 King Nebuchadnezzar makes a golden idol and commands everyone in Babylon to bow down to it. Whoever refuses to bow down would immediately be thrown into a burning, fiery furnace. Everyone follows this command except three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
These three men reply to the King, “If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.” Daniel 3:17 ESV
Consequently, Nebuchadnezzar is furious with their reply and he orders the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than normal. The men ordered to throw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the furnace are killed from the extreme heat.
“Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished and rose up in haste. He declared to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” (25) He answered and said, “But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.” Daniel 3:24-25 ESV
Then Nebuchadnezzar brings Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego out of the furnace and declares them servants of the Most Hight God.
“And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them.” Daniel 3:27 ESV
I realize most of us aren’t facing an actual fiery furnace today, but rather a different kind of fire. One that seeks to take away our faith in God, one the enemy has set out to distort God’s character. Because if we lose sight of who God is we begin to doubt His promises.
I am fighting a progressed auto-immune disease and there are moments I feel completely alone. But this story reminds me and let it remind you today that like Shaddrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you aren’t alone in the midst of your struggle.
So I believe this for you today;
God I pray this promise over your daughters reading this. I speak that they will walk through the fire and not be burned, that they would know You will never leave them or forsake them, they are above and not beneath. They are the head and not the tail. They are healed by Your stripes. When they call on Your name they will be saved, and that because You are for them, NOTHING can come against them!
