I have been reading and listening (yes! I don’t know if you knew this already but the Bible app has an option to listen to your Bible) to Ephesians 1 all week and it is rocking my socks off! Oh my goodness! If there is one thing I know about God right now is that He is absolutely obsessed with us! He loves us so much! Let me prove it to you. The following are verses 3-6 from The Message version:
3-6 How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.
See, these 3 verses can change your life in one second. If all your life or at some point in time you’ve felt rejected, unwanted, unplanned, uninvited and all the “uns” that makes us feel like no body cares if we live or die, this truth will set you free: Long before God laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind! Even before creating this crazy intricate and perfect universe, you were in God’s mind! Doesn’t that make you feel all the warm fuzzies inside? Man! What a love! Now wait for this punch line: “Had settled on us as the focus of his love” BOOM! God, the creator of it all decided to set his mind on you and focus his love on you. His infinite, unexplainable, magnificent love has been focused on you since before the beginning of it all! That’s a long time to be loved! That is literally more than the love of our life because it’s been there before we had life!
“Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ (WHAT A PLEASEURE HE TOOK IN PLANNING THIS). See, God wasn’t thinking, “Oh man, look what I have to do now to get this girl to be my daughter, ugh! I have to give up my son for her?” No! The Word says he took great pleasure in adopting us by giving us Jesus.
7-10 Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth.
Have you ever had a birthday party, bridal shower or a date when someone else did all the planning/execution and you just enjoyed it? Didn’t that feel so special? Didn’t you feel special? I remember this one specific date my husband took me on when we were dating. Boy did I feel special! He said, “I will pick you up at 8 o’clock, make sure you do not wear a dress or skirt” (Yes I found that so weird too, but you’ll se why later). He took me to a super fancy restaurant, he had made reservations, and the table was all set up especially for us. While we were eating he said, “We need to leave at 9:45 for the next part of our date”. I was so curious and excited! After a delicious meal we left the restaurant and he drove to a building I had never seen before. He parked and he took out of the trunk two jackets. (This date happened in the summer so that’s why I didn’t have a jacket with me). He handed me one jacket and said, “You will need this. Inside the pockets you will find gloves” (I was so confused, but so excited!) We walked towards the building and a lady opened the door for us and said, “Welcome, so glad you are here” Josh handed her an iPod and said, “It’s the only play list in the iPod.” Everything was dark and all of the sudden all the lights came on and there it was, a whole ice-skating ring just for us! Man! Talk about feeling special! No wonder why that boy got me to kiss him for the first time that night!
Anyways, my lovey dovey story was to explain to you verses 7 to 10. God had it all planned, all figured out so that we could become His daughters! The cool is we can see several times that God takes pleasure and delight in loving on us, in making us His own, in setting us free!
So next time the enemy tries to make you feel rejected, forgotten, uninvited, unplanned, unwanted, etc. Shut his mouth full of lies with the truths of Ephesians 1:3-10! You were planned long before the earth existed! You’ve been loved way before love took form!
