Praying the News // by Paige Spencer

By September 29, 2016News

I am a news junkie! More times than not, I am checking the news. Every morning at 8 a.m., every evening at 5:30 p.m. and the occasional sneaky look at my news app throughout the day, you’ll find me catching up on the latest news.

I think it’s so important to stay informed with what is going on locally, nationally and internationally! However, this intrigue of mine has not always been beneficial to me and maybe some of you reading this will understand what I’m talking about.

In the past, the things I saw on the news would cause fear to captivate my thinking. I got to the point of not being able to watch the news anymore because I started to fear everything I heard and would blow things way out of proportion when it came to my everyday life. However, one day I finally had it with fear and asked the Lord to change my perspective. Little did I know, His answer was the simplest thing ever.

“Pray hope into the news you see.”

This is my challenge for all us right now. May we not look at the news and think, “Oh that’s awful,” “How sad is that,” or even “I’m glad that’s nowhere near me.” Instead, may we look at the news and immediately recognize we are called to pray!

I also challenge you to research news about Christians in other parts of the world and see how you can play a part in praying for the countries they are in. Below, I’ve given you a list of links to check out and get started!

Pick one country every week, every two weeks or every month and devote some of your quiet time to pray for that specific country. Then, keep up with it in the news to watch what the Lord does with those prayers. Watch your prayers turn into actions and see for yourself how you can be a part of a global movement from right inside of your prayer closet.

Don’t allow fear to squash that intercessor inside of you! Pray the peace of God into every situation and watch His river flow through and create new paths, new ways and bring life to what’s dead!

“Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours!” Mark 11:24

“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it!” John 14:13-14
